About us and our history
Sparks LDC is a Sheffield-based family business run by Jonathan Sparks and his wife Sally. We have two laundry and dry cleaning centres, on Ecclesall Road and at Meadowhead. We also provide commercial flooring, curtains and blinds through our Mastercare Division.
Roger Sparks and family set up Sparks Launderettes at Meadowhead in 1968. When Richard Goodman joined Roger as his business partner in 1971, the company was renamed Goodman-Sparks Ltd and branched out to supply and repair laundry equipment for other businesses. When they retired, Roger’s son Jonathan took over as Managing Director. After 50 years of steady growth, having achieved a major presence across the North and Midlands, this part of the business was acquired by Washco Ltd in 2022, to complete their national service offering.
Our Story at Ecclesall Road
Sheffield’s Premier Laundry & Dry Cleaning Service
Whilst commercial customers account for a large proportion of our business, we still pride ourselves on our service to the Sheffield public at Ecclesall Road. The site has been part of Goodman Sparks for over 30 years. Prior to that it was know as “Sybil’s Quick Clean”. A number of the staff have been with us since the start after transferring to Goodman-Sparks from Sybil’s.
We have recently invested in new equipment for the laundry, all available for customers to use on a self-serve basis. The largest machine with a drum size of 240l is the biggest in Yorkshire and probably the whole of the UK, perfect for king size duvets.
Our founder and Chairman, Roger Sparks is now retired, as is Richard Goodman. The company is now managed by Roger’s son Jonathan, assisted by his wife Sally.
